Never (before) published
There is a cardboard box in the corner of my room. Staring at me. I believe that most artists have such a box. Mine is filled with paper: stacks of figure drawings that my teacher told me to savor for later in life, starts to poems and beginnings of texts that might one day be finished, misprints that were charming in their own way and could not be thrown out. So many works that will never again see the light of day, but I will nonetheless take them with me every time I move house. By recycling them into paper, together with the box itself, I’ve found a way to publish these works without ever having to show them. ‘Never (before) published’ revalues twelve of these ‘box-works’ into a handmade book, while keeping them hidden in between the cardboard.
