The Cartonographer
Club Dérive

The Cartonographer is a portable drawing sculpture that transforms a carbon box into a blind printer/drawing tool. Visitors slide their hands through the cardboard holes, and - guided by movement, observation and chance - begin a walking drawing. Inside, a sheet of paper records the walker's invisible path.
The box acts as a manual printer: the result becomes visible as the draughtsman, the walker "spits out" the sheet through the printer's mouth.

With a nod to print culture, sensory design and graphic publishing practices, this work raises questions about documentation, subjective perception and making visible of an invisible, temporary path.

The Cartonographer is an extension of Drift Publishing, an artistic method in which space and movement come together through publication as attitude - and in which printing is not just a technical act, but a physical, mental and performative one.
